Color Guard performs with live marching band music, whether on a football field or in a parade. Color Guard is a Fall activity; auditions are held in the Spring and we begin rehearsals in the summer. Our performance season ends in November.
As mentioned on the General Info What We Do page, we bring a visual interpretation to our Wildcat Show Band theme which is played by our band. We use a variety of skills and movement to portray the story. We visually bring music to life through dancing, acting and other interpretive movement with the use our equipment and bodies. Although it is fun, it does take hard work and dedication to learn the skills. Our instructors are dedicated to making our team the best it can be by building solid foundations in technique and form.
Once auditions are completed, we have optional get togethers 1-2 times a week during the summer to get ahead on some basic skills in all pieces of equipment and body. In August, we have a required a one week Color Guard camp to learn all the dance and equipment techniques we need. Directly following Color Guard camp, we attend Band Camp for two weeks to learn additional performance skills along with learning how to work around and with the OHHS Wildcat Show Band.
Once school begins, we rehearse 4-5 days a week, every week along with a few days with the band. We continue to add more choreography to the band's music and learn drill (formations). We are constantly learning and growing every day.
With the band, we all bring the show to life. We perform this show with the band during football game halftimes. We also compete in two band competitions in October. As we and the Show Band continue to grow and expand, we will enter additional competitions and perform at different venues.
